The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-GH) have issued a letter to the Hon. Minister for Education, calling attention to unresolved grievances.
The letter, dated 18th September, 2023, highlights two main issues: the payment of a 20% allowance on gross salary to teachers who accept postings to under-served areas, and the refund of GH¢ 44.55 to teachers, both of which have not been addressed despite being in the Collective Agreement for many years.
The Unions have set a deadline of the end of September 2023 for the Ministry of Education to resolve these issues, failing which they would boycott the national celebration of the 2023 World Teachers Day and Ghana Teacher Prize Awards, as well as all other regional, district, and local celebrations slated for 5th October, 2023.

They also expressed their disappointment that the Hon. Minister for Education has not acknowledged their letter or given any indication of acting on the issues.
The Unions again noted that since 2018, the Vehicle Maintenance Allowance as provided in the Collective Agreement has not been honoured.
The National Labour Commission (NLC) has been informed of the situation, and the Teacher Unions have warned that their next line of action would be made known after the end of september.

The Teacher Unions are hoping that their deadline will be met so that their members can continue to serve with dedication and commitment.
