Students at colleges of Education are not poor- CETAG

A lot of individuals and stakeholders are of the view that student allowances should be canceled.

The majority posits that the money could be used for infrastructure expansion in the colleges to accommodate more students.

The Colleges of Education Teacher Association, CETAG) has joined the campaign for the cancellation of the trainees’ allowances paid to them.

At the National Dialogue on initial Teacher Education held at the Bediako Conference Hall, GNAT HQ, Accra, CETAG made it known that colleges of education students are rich and not poor.

‘Students in colleges of education are not poor’, he stated

However, The President of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG), Jonathan Dzunu has disclosed that most of their members are from poor homes thus, they largely depend on the trainee allowances to pay their fees. He noted, “Taking it off will create a different problem. Are you looking at the consequences you are putting on the students too? We are from poor homes, so the allowances are what most students depend on”.
