According to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), it has been observed that some candidates taking the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) tend to write love stories in their answer booklets instead of providing answers to the actual exam questions.

As per Veronica Asante, the Head of Private Examinations at WAEC, who discussed this in an interview with Winifred Ampiaw, it was highlighted that a majority of candidates involved in such peculiar acts are females.

To illustrate, Veronica mentioned a female candidate who pleaded, “Please help me pass the examination since this is my fourth attempt at WASSCE. If you assist me, I promise to fulfil all your desires,” as written on her answer booklet.

Furthermore, it was revealed by the WAEC official that some senior high school (SHS) students in their final year also include their contact numbers in the answer booklets, with the intention of examiners reaching out to them. This practice is considered a form of examination malpractice.

In a related development, the results for the WASSCE for Schools undertaken by Free SHS students, who participated in the international examination, will be released on Tuesday, December 14, 2023, as stated by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
