The Government of Ghana in May 2022 cut sods for the construction of 300-bed hostel blocks in all the 46 Colleges of Education in the country.
The project, when completed is set to help accommodate the increased number of students and improve teaching and learning In the colleges of education.
The construction of the three-story blocks, tallied to cost ¢485 million, is being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

This is an initiative of the Government, through the Ministry of Education, and its Agency, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
On the 19th of May, 2022, Komenda College of Education witnessed handing over of the drawings and building plan for the project to the contractor, Mr. Samuel Yaw Oppong the lead architect, and his team from highway constructions limited by Mrs. Maamley Addy, the Consultant for the project, on a visit to the project site.
The clearing of the site for this project was to have commenced on Monday, 23rd May 2022 but failed.
Conversing with the Surveyor on Saturday, 20th August as to the holdup in clearing the site, he noted the rain was making their work difficult.
He further stated that the site was a low territory and needed much time for it to get arid when it showers. Hence, they did the needful by moving it to a different location which is much better and they are in to fully commence operations.
“We were here on the said date as pledged to clear the land for the commencement of work but the rain hindered us. We are glad it is down now, and we are in to start”, he expressed.

The site is cleared now and the construction materials are expected to be in within the shortest time.
“We are having 15 months to complete this project and we will do everything possible to finish on time”, he concluded.
