The Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education(PRINCOF) has called on the Leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana(CETAG) to consider calling off their industrial action to pave way for the commencement of the 2022/2023 academic year.
The Leadership of CETAG was told by PRINCOF to reconsider their decision and call off their indefinite strike during a meeting held on January 13, 2023, at the PRINCOF House, East Legon, Accra to deliberate about the 2022/2023 academic calendar.
The 2022/2023 proposed academic calendar was extensively discussed with a lot of revisions made to it.
it was noted that the final calendar shall shortly be shared with the affiliate universities and all colleges before it is implemented.
It was also disclosed that, Colleges of Education would be admitting day/non-residential Students coming 2023/2024 academic year.
Below are the fallout from the Meeting held between CETAG and PRINCOF concerning the 2022/2023 academic calendar;
The issue of payment of compensation for all-year-round work (2021/2022) was revisited.
Also, PRINCOF assured CETAG that their compensation shall be paid as agreed.
According to PRINCOF, the Payment of compensation for all-year-round work for 2021/2022 shall be done on a cost-sharing basis between GoG and IGF.
The proposed 2022/2023 academic calendar was discussed extensively with some modifications to it.
It was concluded that Tutors who shall teach beyond the maximum credit load of 12 hours per week shall be paid an extra teaching load allowance for up to 6 hours per week by the colleges.
Individual colleges are also permitted to design timetables that will ensure that tutors can handle courses in their specialized areas instead of assigning a whole level to a tutor or two.
The 2023/2024 academic calendar shall be modified after the Ministry has secured cabinet approval this year for the colleges to begin admitting day/non-residential students.
The final calendar shall be shared with the affiliate universities and all colleges before it is implemented.
Meanwhile, PRINCOF has pleaded with CETAG to reconsider calling off their strike to pave way for the 2022/2023 academic year to start.
