In a bid to prevent disruption to the College of Education’s academic calendar, the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has called on the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to reconsider their decision to embark on a nationwide strike set to commence on August 1, 2023.
As previously reported, CETAG had announced their intention to initiate an indefinite strike if their demands relating to improved working conditions are not met before July 30, 2023.
The association, comprised of dedicated teachers in the country’s colleges of education, has been advocating for better conditions of service to ensure their well-being and enable them to provide quality education to students for the past two(2) years.

Recognizing the significance of teachers in shaping the future of the nation, the Minister of Education has emphasized the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted academic calendar.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum believes that a strike at this crucial time could have adverse effects on students’ education and further disrupt an already challenging academic year.
While the Minister acknowledges the genuine concerns of CETAG regarding their conditions of service, he has urged the association to explore alternative channels for dialogue and engagement.

To avoid any potential disruptions to the education system, the Minister of Education remains hopeful that CETAG will reconsider their decision to strike and instead, continue engaging with the government towards finding a solution that meets their demands while safeguarding the interests of students and maintaining a stable academic environment.
