Following numerous requests from teacher trainees in public Colleges of Education about the payment date for their remaining allowance, our news desk reached out to officials of the Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) for clarification.

In an interaction with an official, it was revealed that there are currently no plans regarding the payment of the remaining allowance for trainees.

However, the official did mention that payment has been made to trainees who did not receive the initial disbursement due to a mismatch of their details.

He emphasised that those who later presented their correct details had been paid a long time ago.

The official also stated that the remaining two months’ allowance will be paid when funds become available, and they will not withhold it from trainees.

Meanwhile, the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) is advocating for an increase in the allowance for trainees.

This was indicated in a communique and a resolution passed after their 27th General Assembly held at Ejisu-Abanko from September 3 to September 6, 2023.

In addition to requesting an increase in the allowance, TTAG has also called on the government to pass a policy document that will back the payment of the allowance to trainees.
