On the 26th of July, 2023, the Home Economics students of Komenda College of Education came together to launch their association, known as the Komenda Home Economics Students Association (HESAK).
The launching ceremony took place at the college’s Robert Mensah Complex Hall and was held under the theme “The Home Economics Teacher in the 21st Century: An Agent for Family and Societal Well-being.”
The Dignitaries in Attendance:
The event was chaired by the college’s principal, Very Revered Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD), and witnessed the presence of numerous dignitaries.
Among them were Madam Kutum Comfort Madah, the Vice Chairperson of the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA), and Madam Sarah Baah-Odoom, the Central Region Chairperson of GHEA.

The Vice Principal for the college, Mr. Theophilus Kweku Bassaw, heads of departments, tutors, and other well-wishers also attended the event.
The Welcome Address by the HOD (ATVET):
In his welcome address, the HOD(ATVET), Mr. Patrick Ogoe elucidated that the establishment of the Home Economics Students Association is a testament to their commitment to providing holistic and comprehensive education to their students.

“With this new development, we are embarking on a journey to empower our ATVET students with essential manipulative life skills, knowledge, and expertise that will not only shape their individual lives but also help them contribute to the betterment of their society and the nation at large”, he stated.
The Guest Speaker’s Address
Madam Kutum Comfort Madah, the Guest Speaker, spoke on the theme and debunked the wrong perceptions many have regarding students and individuals who are into Home Economics.
She stated that some believe it is for non-academic performing students. However, she believes that Home Economics is not for non-academic performing students but rather for those who are brilliant as Home Economics entails a lot.

She encouraged the leaders of the association to see to it that it isn’t only just an association that they are forming but rather should see to it that they arrange with resources persons to organize programs to enhance the development of the members.
She also urged them to extend their services to the Komenda community so that everybody within the community will also benefit from the association.
The Guest of Honor’s Address
The Guest of Honor, Mrs. Sarah Baah-Odoom, in her address, emphasized that the Home Economics teacher in the 21st Century teaches with today’s tools and technology.

“Home Economics teachers must utilize everything that is important in today’s world so that students will be able to live and prosper in today’s economy, as well as have the ability to guide students and prepare them for the future”, she stated
She, therefore, called on educators to note that the Home Economic influence extends beyond the classroom, reaching into homes and communities where they inspire positive change.
The Launching Ceremony:
The launching ceremony was filled with various activities that showcased the importance of home economics education in the 21st century. The event had a series of captivating speeches and presentations.
The Chairman’s Gratitude
The Chairman, Very Reverend Kwesi Nkum Wilson (PhD), expressed his gratitude to God for a successful event.
He called on the members and the leaders of the association to note that the association is for their professional development and a place where they will meet and share professional ideas.

He concluded by stating that they should make sure it doesn’t become a one-day wonder but a stronger association in the college and beyond
The launch of the Komenda Home Economics Students Association is a significant milestone for Komenda College of Education.

The association aims to provide students with essential manipulative life skills, knowledge, and expertise that will not only shape their individual lives but also help them contribute to the betterment of their society and the nation at large
