The leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has formally issued an apology to the Minister of Education, for their inability to attend an in-person meeting scheduled for earlier this week.

In a letter addressed to the Minister, CETAG expressed regret over any inconveniences triggered by their absence from the high-level convergence.

They further clarified that their request for the meeting to be held online was devoid of any ill motives or intent to disrespect the Minister’s office.

The key hurdle deterring their presence was the dispersed nature of their member locations across the country, the association’s leadership elucidated.

CETAG further highlighted the fact that they usually require at least two days to converge in Kumasi before proceeding to attend any meeting held in Accra.

The association emphasized that meetings with the Minister hold great significance for them as it presents an opportunity to discuss their challenges and suggest policies that could benefit the colleges. They reaffirmed their willingness to honor physical meetings with him.

However, they requested that they be given prior notice to adequately address the distance barrier they face before any meeting. This, they believe, would allow them to make the necessary arrangements and ensure their full participation.

The leadership also used the opportunity to convey their gratitude to the Education Minister for his continual personal interest in their affairs, as well as those of the colleges.

The Association also recounted instances where the Minister personally intervened during their previous strifes, efforts they asserted would not be forgotten.

Nevertheless, some members have also expressed their disappointment in their leadership for sending such a letter without the due attention of the rank and file of CETAG.

They believe that such decisions should involve a broader consensus before being communicated to the Minister.

When will the strike be called off?

The final verdict as to whether the strike will be called off or not will be on August 30, 2023.

According to members of CETAG, there are other awards that the government must implement aside from their allowances.
