The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has announced a two-year extension of the validity period of accreditation granted to programmes of the Colleges of Education.

This decision was reached at the 10th meeting held on August 24, 2023, and will see the extension run from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2025.

The extension comes as the National Teaching Standards (NTS) and the National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework (NTECF) are currently under review.

Once the review is complete, there will be a consequent review of the current curriculum on offer for regular re-accreditation of the programmes.

It is important to note that this extension only applies to programmes with expired accreditation status that were specifically assigned to individual Colleges of Education.

The GTEC hopes that this extension will give the relevant stakeholders enough time to complete the necessary reviews and ensure that the programmes offered by the Colleges of Education meet the highest standards.
