The Ghana Education Service (GES) has made a release indicating that they have been made aware of a distressing video that has been circulating on social media.
The video shows students of Ghana Senior High School, Tamale, forced to sleep in toilet cubicles due to a shortage of dormitory space. The GES has called this situation “unacceptable” and “very disturbing.”
Despite the school having vacancies available for an additional 300 students, records show that only 1467 students enrolled out of a possible 1790 vacancies. Therefore, there should have been extra capacity to accommodate all students comfortably.
The Headmaster and the Senior Housemaster of the school have been directed to step aside to allow for further investigation by the Regional Director of Education. The report is expected to be submitted within two weeks.
The Management of GES has also assured their stakeholders and the general public that they will continue to prioritize the safety of their students and work towards providing a safe school environment for all.
