Seven Senior High School headmasters in the Ashanti Region have been directed to step aside from their positions for collecting unauthorized fees from form 1 students.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) issued separate letters to the headmasters of Kumasi Girls, Asanteman, Kumasi, Manso Adubia, Agric Nzema Community, Nkawie, and Collins Senior High School, informing them of the directive.

The letters, dated December 8, 2023, stated that the GES had noticed the collection of unauthorized monies as part of the admission process.

The unauthorised fees included payments for sewn anniversary cloth, house dues, the sale of books, the sale of calculators, and the sale of anniversary cloth, among others.

As a result, the headmasters were asked to hand over all properties of the school with immediate effect and step aside for an investigation to be conducted.

The GES cited the code of conduct as the basis for their directive.
