The leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced the withdrawal of teaching and its related services by tutors of the 46 public colleges of education.
This decision comes as a result of the government’s failure to comply with the Arbitral Award Orders issued by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on May 2, 2023.
During the National Delegates Conference of CETAG held from Sunday, July 30th to Monday, July 31st, 2023, the leadership unanimously resolved that starting from Tuesday, August 1st, 2023, all tutors employed in the public colleges of education will be withholding their services until the government fulfils all the orders outlined by the NLC.
The demands put forth by CETAG encompass several important issues affecting tutors’ welfare and working conditions.
Firstly, CETAG is demanding the full payment of seven months’ arrears of allowances owed to its members in accordance with the NLC’s Arbitral Award Order.

Additionally, CETAG insists on the payment of a one-month salary to each member as compensation for additional duties performed in the year 2022, as directed by the NLC.
Another demand raised by CETAG revolves around the publication of the report of the Staff Audit and the subsequent extension of public universities’ rates of allowances to deserving members of CETAG, as per the NLC’s Arbitral Award Order.
Furthermore, CETAG requires the immediate release of leave rosters by each college of education to enable tutors to take their entitled fifteen working days of leave for the year 2022, in compliance with the NLC’s orders.
