The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) recently released a statement, warning the government that they will embark on an indefinite strike if their demands are not granted by August 1, 2023.
This release follows the government’s failure to address the association’s requests, leading them to take this drastic step.
The scheduled strike is set to commence on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, unless the government takes action and implements the negotiated allowances and compensations for the tutors, as ordered by the National Labour Commission (NLC).
If the government does not meet these requirements by Monday, July 31, 2023, the teachers’ association will proceed with their strike.
The decision to initiate this strike action stems from the government’s prolonged delay in negotiating new conditions of service (COS) for the teachers.

Since August 2021, the negotiations have been intentionally extended by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), which represents the employers, causing frustration and dissatisfaction among the teachers.
In the face of these challenges, CETAG firmly believes that a strike is necessary to emphasize the urgency of their demands.
They expect the government to prioritize and address their needs promptly, ensuring fair and just conditions of service for the teachers in the College of Education.
As the August 1, 2023 deadline approaches, all eyes are on the government to see if they will take swift action to avert the impending strike.
