CETAG Strike: TTAG calls for Swift Resolution

The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has officially acknowledged the indefinite strike action initiated by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) on June 14, 2024.

In a statement released on 21st June, 2024, the association expressed concern about the traumatic experiences that the teacher trainees are facing due to the strike action and also recognized the validity of the concerns raised by CETAG that led to their decision.

TTAG revealed that upon receiving the strike notice, they engaged with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the interests of trainees are given utmost priority in all discussions.

“The leadership of TTAG upon receiving the strike notice, engaged the necessary stakeholders to ensure that the interests of trainees are at the forefront of every hearing among the involved parties,” the statement reads.

TTAG stated they are seriously worried about the potential long-term consequences of this strike action on trainees’.

“We wish to emphasize the potential long-term consequences of disrupting students’ educational journey, especially during this critical academic period. This indefinite strike action can disrupt our academic calendars in all colleges, delay examinations, and impede the timely completion of courses and programs for final-year students”

In light of these concerns, TTAG has called on CETAG and the government to prioritize dialogue and find a resolution that minimizes the negative impact on trainees.

“We urge all parties (i.e. CETAG and Government) involved, to prioritize dialogue and seek a resolution that minimizes the adverse impact on trainees”

They also emphasized on the need for a swift and amicable resolution that takes into account the interests of all stakeholders, with a special focus on the students, who are at the core of the educational institution in colleges.
