Following the ruling by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on August 30, 2023, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the College of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) convened to deliberate on the directive given by the commission.

This directive mandated the restoration of all withdrawn teaching and related services while the Employer followed the allotted timelines to ensure full compliance with the Compulsory Arbitral Awards issued on May 2nd, 2023.

Subsequent to the NEC meeting, a decision was made to conduct polls across all local branches of CETAG. The objective was to allow each member the opportunity to vote and determine whether or not to call off the ongoing strike, as directed by the NLC.

The voting process, which was of utmost importance, transpired until Monday, September 4th, 2023, at exactly 12 noon.

During the NEC meeting that took place via Telegram on September 4th, 2023, between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m., the Zonal Chairmen reported the results of the voting from the forty-six colleges.

Following the collation of these results, it was revealed that 32 colleges had voted in favor of calling off or suspending the strike, while 14 colleges voted for its continuation.

The outcome of the voting clearly indicated that the majority of the colleges were in favor of suspending the strike.

In light of this development, NEC has urged all members of CETAG to resume their duties by Thursday, September 7th, 2023. This is due to the logistical challenges involved in travelling from various locations to the campuses.

However, the leadership added that they are diligently working to ensure that the Employer fully complies with all the outstanding Compulsory Arbitral Awards, which includes the payment of suspended salaries and allowances for August 2023.
