In an unprecedented turn of events, Bernard Nyanzu has been elected as the first-ever president of the Ghana Nurse and Midwives Trainees Association – Central West Zone, from the Western North Region.

The announcement was made during the 21st Congress held in Takoradi, where new executives were being elected for the association.

The Central West Zone is comprised of 14 prestigious institutions, housing approximately 13,000 students. This zone has always been considered a significant region for nursing and midwifery, with a strong presence of educators and trainees aspiring to make a difference in the healthcare sector.

The election for the position of president was highly anticipated, as various candidates campaigned vigorously to secure the role.

In the end, Bernard Nyanzu emerged as the victorious candidate, receiving an impressive 20 votes. His main contender, Ama Marcathy from Sekondi, garnered 12 votes, showcasing the tough competition that existed throughout the election process.

Bernard Nyanzu’s triumph signifies a momentous occasion for the nursing community, particularly in the Western North region, where history has been made.

His achievement has set a precedent for aspiring nursing and midwifery trainees, inspiring them to reach for greater heights and become pioneers in their field.

To add to his remarkable achievement, Bernard Nyanzu also holds the position of Student Representative Council (SRC) president for Bibiani College of Health Sciences.

His dual roles as both SRC president and zonal president further solidify his commitment to representing the interests and aspirations of his fellow trainees.

In an interview, Hon. Bernard Nyanzu expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he received throughout the election.

“This is a historic moment for the Western North region and, indeed, for all nursing and midwifery trainees. We have achieved what was once deemed impossible, and I am humbled to spearhead this transformative journey. I am committed to ensuring that our voices are heard, our concerns are addressed, and that we create an environment that fosters growth and development,” said Nyanzu.

As the newly elected president, Bernard Nyanzu aims to focus on various key areas, including training and educational reforms, enhancing communication channels within the association, and advocating for the welfare and rights of trainees.
