Sensitization workshop on Education Policies for Teachers in the Mfantseman Municipality by the Training and Development Unit of Komenda College of Education

The National Teaching Council(NTC) mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020( Act 1023,) to regulate the Teaching Profession in Ghana introduced a New Point-Based Assessment which is to help determine which license holding staff of the Ghana Education Service qualifies to renew their License if it expires or becomes due to renewal.

On this note, it has become very expedient for every teacher to attend professional workshops to help in point accumulations and acquiring of new skills and trends in the teaching profession.

Komenda College of Education as one of the Teacher Trainee Institutions with The Teachers Continuous Professional Development Accreditation from NTC in collaboration with the Mfantseman Municipal Educational Directorate held A-day Mop-up workshop on Educational Policies for Basic and Secondary School Teachers in the Municipality on 4th March, 2022 at GESDI, Saltpond.

The facilitators for the event were Mr. Daniel Kofi Nkum, Mr. Joseph Amonoo Sekyi, Mr. Godwin Attobra and Mr. Benjamin Henry Taylor.

Topics discussed included;

  1. CPD Framework and Point Building System
  2. Teacher Licensing and the use of the Teachers Portal
  3. The National Teacher Standard and Compliance
  4. The Ghana Teacher Prize
  5. Educational Regulatory Bodies Act 2020, ct 1023

In His statement for the purpose of the workshop, The Dean of Academic Affairs for Komenda College of Education, Mr. Daniel Kofi Nkum stated that, it has currently become necessary for every teacher in the Nation to attend professional development workshops to help in point accumulations for their License Renewal.

He admonished them to pay attention to lessons to be undertaken, and also partake in every activity they will be assigned to by their facilitators.

Madam Betty Smith, the Municipal Education Director, in her welcome address, applauded the teachers for attending the workshop in their numbers.

This workshop will help you learn new things and acquire new knowledge which will enable enhance your classroom deliveries as teachers, she added.

She also urged them to secure their jobs as teachers. And that can be possible through attending of NTC mandated workshops. As these workshops help accumulate points for promotions and license renewal.

The workshop had close to 150 participants in attendance, all from the Mfantseman municipality. Participants were given workshop materials.

Teachers having challenges accessing their Teachers Portal as well as those yet to register were assisted.

Assessment was conducted at the end of the Programme as participants were given 25 multiple-choice items to answer.
