Some stakeholders have suggested to the Ghana Education Service to extend the vacation date for the Basic schools.
According to them, two (2) additional weeks should be added on the vacation date due to the COLA strike which took place from the 8th Week and ended on the 9th week.
The Ghana Education service, GES, has made it known that all schools and the public schools’ academic calendar released in March is still intact.
By the Calendar, vacation for second term commences on the 11th of August whiles the third term starts from 13th of September through to the 15th of December,2022.
Meanwhile, The Director General of the GES, Prof. Kwesi Opoku-Amankwa maintains that the recent strike by the teacher unions has not impacted the academic calendar that much for an extension.
He stated that, “As a way of ensuring that lost time during the strike is recovered, regional and district directors have been instructed to liaise with the various school heads to put some interventions in place for the pupils. One of the key interventions is extra classes.
