The National Service Scheme (NSS) has come under intense criticism from its personnel over the non-payment of their allowances in arrears.
Many National Service Personnel have not received their August and September 2023 allowances, which was recently said to have been paid, despite submitting their evaluation forms on time.
In addition to this, the government has also failed to pay the January to June retrospective arrears difference of GH¢ 939 to any National Service person.

The deduction of GH¢ 25 from the July 2023 allowance has also not been refunded.
The situation has left many National Service Personnel frustrated and struggling to make ends meet. Some have even resorted to borrowing money from family and friends to survive.
Speaking to some of the affected personnel, they expressed their disappointment with the NSS and the government for failing to fulfill their obligations.
“I have been waiting for my August allowance for weeks now, and it’s really affecting me. I have bills to pay and no money to do so,” said one National Service Personnel.

Another added, “It’s really unfair that we have to keep waiting for our allowances. We work hard and deserve to be paid on time.”
It is also sad to know that some National Service Personnel have never been paid for almost a year now, leaving them in a dire financial situation.
The personnel are therefore calling on the government and NSS to step in and address the situation to avoid further hardship on their part.
