The SRC Presidents of the 16 Colleges of Education under the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has issued a missive calling on TTAG to petition UCC on the quiz and examination timetables released.
In the missive, the SRC Presidents posited they have noticed with grave concern the CETAG and CENTSAG Strike and it’s attending ramifications it has brought to teacher trainees.
They, therefore, called on the TTAG National Secretariate to intervene on their behalf on the following grounds:
- Following the CETAG and CENTSAG industrial action, many of their constituents have gone home and the timelines given for the examination are not feasible for them to return to campus.
- Amidst the industrial action, contact hours have been reduced by five (5) weeks out of the supposed fourteen (14) weeks of face-to-face engagement by their Tutors which falls short of assessment principles in education.
- The timing for the examination is questionable and untenable in that, most
Trainees were sniffing on tenterhooks as to when lectures will begin and are not psychologically prepared for examinations. - Due to the strike action, trainees have not
been able to cover even 30% of the units of almost all the courses and does not seem fit to write the quizzes and end of semester examinations. - Also, issues affecting CETAG affect the present and future wellness of the teaching profession so therefore until the government agrees to heed the demands of CETAG, teacher trainees will not engage in any academic activity as going contrary threatens the future of the profession we are being trained to undertake.
However, Trainees are pleading that to enable them to prepare adequately, the quizzes and end-of-semester examinations should be postponed to next year.
For emphasis, all student teachers are entreated to stay off the examinations in compliance with the directives given by the
aforementioned reasons.
They also believe the aforementioned reasons are enough for TTAG to have a proper engagement with the Stakeholders to grant their plea.
