
The Wiawso College of Education has achieved a remarkable feat by emerging as the winners of the TTAG WEC Sector Pedagogy Challenge held on the 29th of March, 2025, at Komenda College of Education.
This groundbreaking event marked the maiden edition of the Pedagogy Challenge, initiated by the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) to inspire excellence in teaching and learning among teacher trainees enrolled in public colleges of education across the country.
The Pedagogy Challenge was conceptualized to foster critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in pedagogy while recognizing and celebrating exceptional teaching practices.
The scope of the Pedagogy Challenge was meticulously designed to encompass various aspects of teaching and learning.
Contest Scope and Coverage
Participants were rigorously tested in areas such as:
- Foundations of Pedagogy: This segment explored definitions, scope, learning theories, and teaching methods, providing a strong theoretical base for teaching practices.
- Curriculum and Instruction: Trainees demonstrated their understanding of curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment methods, showcasing their aptitude in structuring and delivering impactful lessons.
- Classroom Management and Environment: This covered classroom organization, discipline and management, along with the integration of technology to create conducive learning environments.
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Trainees were evaluated on their ability to handle cultural responsiveness, implement differentiated instruction, and address social justice issues.
- Additional Learning: Participants were quizzed on the structure and contributions of TTAG, ensuring familiarity with the organization’s operations and role in educational development.
Seven colleges from the Western, Western North, and Central regions competed fiercely for the WEC sector slot at the national level.
These included;
- Holy Child College of Education
- Enchi College of Education
- Foso College of Education
- Bia Lamplighter College of Education
- Komenda College of Education
- OLA College of Education,
- Wiawso College of Education.
Each college brought forth formidable teams that demonstrated commendable academic prowess and a deep understanding of pedagogical principles.
As the competition progressed, the excitement and tension heightened, particularly as the teams approached the final rounds.
Every team showcased impressive knowledge in pedagogy, teaching strategies, and curriculum development.

Nail-Biting Finale
However, the highlight of the event was the dramatic showdown between Wiawso College (WATICO) and Foso College (FOSCO), both of whom emerged as joint champions with 32 points each.
A tie-breaker round was introduced to determine the ultimate winner, creating an intense and nerve-wracking atmosphere.
Multiple challenging questions were posed to the two teams, and the defining moment arrived when Wiawso College correctly identified the full meaning of CENTSAG as the “Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana.”
This response sealed their victory and earned them the championship title. Foso College claimed second place, having displayed equally remarkable abilities throughout the contest.
The competition also witnessed another tie-breaker between Komenda College of Education and Bia Lamplighter College of Education.
Komenda College demonstrated grit and determination to secure fourth place, rounding out the top positions.
