The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the first series of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates.
According to a press release issued on March 28th, a total of 12,452 candidates participated in the examination.
The release further indicated that 5,269 were male and 7,998 were female. Sadly, 738 candidates registered but were absent.
However, not all results were released smoothly. WAEC disclosed that it detected malpractices during the examination and marking process.
Consequently, the subject results of 34 candidates and the entire results of 43 candidates have been withheld pending investigations into these cases.

“The Council detected some malpractices during the conduct of the examination and during the marking exercise. In view of that the subject results of 34 and the entire results of 43 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice,” the statement read.
Performance Analysis in Core Subjects
WAEC provided a detailed breakdown of candidates’ performance in the four core subjects:

WAEC also issued a strong warning to candidates, parents, and guardians to be vigilant against scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

The council reiterated that its database is secure and urged institutions to verify results directly through WAEC’s official website.
