Students Of Atebubu College of Education Outraged over Generator Fee

0

Students of the Atebubu College of Education in the Bono East Region have expressed growing anger over a controversial GH¢100 generator fee charged to them by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and school authorities.

In a May 21, 2024 memo sighted by Coleman Publications, the SRC and hall tutors announced that the fee would be used to maintain the campus backup power system.

The Students are expected to pay the amount before June 2, 2024 at the Agricultural Development Bank.

According to the memo, the fee is part of a broader package of charges, including welfare and hall dues. However, the generator fee has sparked particular concern among students.

“It’s outrageous that we’re being forced to pay such a hefty amount just to have power,” said one student who requested anonymity.

“We’re already struggling financially, and this is just adding to our burden,” another stated.

Some Students have also taken to social media to express their discontent, using the hashtag #GeneratorFeeOutrage.

They are demanding an explanation for the fee and questioning why the school cannot afford to maintain the generators from its own resources.

The SRC and college authorities have yet to comment on the matter.

Students say they will continue to protest the fee until they receive a satisfactory response.
