The National Identification Authority (NIA) has introduced new fees for Ghana Card services at selected registration centres.

A notice shared on the NIA’s official Facebook page on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, details the costs for various services including first-time registration, card replacement, and record updates.

First-time registration and record updates will each be priced at GHC 310.00. A card replacement will cost GHC 420.00, while updating records and replacing cards simultaneously will be charged at GHC 355.00. Nationality updates will incur a fee of GHC 365.00.

These fees apply exclusively at specific premium registration centres. The NIA clarified that such charges have been effective since May 2024.

First-time issuance of the Ghana Card continues to be free for all applicants. However, those opting for premium centres will need to pay the respective fees.

Additionally, the NIA noted that card replacements at district offices nationwide will cost GHC 125.00, while first-time issuance at these offices remains free of charge.

The Ghana Card is the official national identity card for Ghanaians both within and outside the country, providing proof of identity, citizenship, and residency. It incorporates biometric data for secure authentication.

Since its launch, the Ghana Card has become crucial for government services, banking, healthcare, and electoral processes.

Over 18 million Ghanaians have been registered, and in 2024, the NIA extended card issuance to Ghanaians living abroad, with the first card issued in Ottawa, Canada.
