The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), has formally announced the absorption of Savannah College of Education into the public college system.
This significant development underscores the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality teacher education and strengthening the nation’s educational foundations.
According to a statement released, after a comprehensive review and due diligence process, Savannah College of Education met all the requirements to transition from a private institution to a fully recognized public College of Education.

This transition will ensure that the college now operates under the governance and funding framework of the public tertiary education system, enabling access to enhanced state resources and support.
The Ministry outlined several key benefits expected from the absorption, including:

- Enhanced Quality: Improving training through state-funded infrastructure, professional development for faculty, and curriculum advancements.
- Promoting Equity: Providing resources to strengthen teacher education in underserved regions.
The Ministry of Education expressed its gratitude to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), traditional authorities, and the management of Savannah College of Education for their pivotal roles in facilitating this smooth transition.

The Ministry has urged students, faculty, and all stakeholders to embrace this transition fully and collaborate to establish Savannah College of Education as a centre of excellence in teacher education.
However, it is important to note that this transition remains subject to the approval of the yet-to-be-constituted GTEC Governing Board, which will oversee the full implementation of this development.
