Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) has issued a strict prohibition on unauthorized social media postings and the recording of lectures, effective immediately.
According to the school authorities, this move aims to maintain the integrity and conducive learning environment of the institution.
In a recent statement from the office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, dated March 11, 2025, it was highlighted that certain students have been recording classroom activities, academic issues, and other campus-related matters, and posting them on social media to mock lecturers and fellow students.
The statement referenced Statute 73, Section 3(e), which states that individuals (staff or students) whose conduct brings the name of the University into disrepute will face disciplinary action.

Additionally, the statement cited Section 46.3(i) of the student handbook, emphasizing that any form of gibes, such as jokes, mockery, teasing, or ridicule related to one’s trait or appearance, invasion of one’s private space, and intentional acts targeted at one’s self-esteem, creating a hostile or intimidating environment, are unacceptable. “The University strongly condemns such behaviour,” the statement reads.
Students have been cautioned to refrain from posting images or videos of individuals on social media without their consent.
“Recording campus matters or issues and sharing them on social media that brings the University’s name into disrepute is highly discouraged,” the statement emphasized. Disciplinary measures could be taken against anyone found guilty of such acts.
In addition, the university has banned videography and photography during lectures without the explicit consent of the lecturer.

According to the university, the prohibition aims to protect intellectual property, prevent distractions and disruptions, and address privacy concerns.
“Lecturers’ materials, including lectures, are their intellectual property. Recording or capturing these materials without consent may infringe on their rights,” the statement explained.
The university also pointed out that photography and videography can be distracting and disrupt the learning environment, affecting both the student taking the pictures or videos and their peers.
Moreover, recording or capturing images of lecturers or fellow students without consent raises significant privacy concerns.
Students who need to take pictures or videos for legitimate academic purposes are advised to seek the lecturer’s consent beforehand. “They may provide alternative arrangements,” the statement suggested.
“We appreciate your cooperation and understanding in respecting lecturers’ rights and maintaining a conducive environment,” the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s office stated.
