The Pre-Tertiary Teacher Unions in Ghana Education Service (GES) have raised concerns about the reopening and reporting dates for Senior High School (SHS) students and staff.
In a statement released on November 29, 2023, the unions highlighted the challenges they have observed.
According to them, the placement of first-year students into SHSs began on November 28, 2023, and is still ongoing.

However, the announced date for the reporting of first-year students, scheduled for December 4, 2023, is seen as impractical due to the close proximity of the placement and reopening dates.
Furthermore, the unions asserted that, asking first-year students to report on December 4, 2023, only to go home again on December 21, 2023, for the Christmas break is viewed as burdensome for students, staff, and parents.
The unions also expressed concern about the limited vacation period from December 21, 2023, to January 2, 2024, stating that it does not provide enough time for meaningful rest for teaching and non-teaching staff.

As a result, the unions are calling on the GES management to reconsider these situations and make changes to the dates.
They are urging for a swift response from the authorities.
