The long-awaited teacher trainees’ allowances for the 2023/2024 academic year will be disbursed soon, following the resolution of the ‘standoff’ between the allowance coordinators and the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).
Sources had revealed that the delay was caused by the refusal of the allowance coordinators in the colleges of education to upload the details of their students to the SLTF.
This hindered the SLTF’s ability to initiate payments despite having the funds available.
The coordinators had demanded some token for the work they had performed and continue to do in collating the students’ details and other responsibilities relating to the allowance.
However, following negotiations, with TTAG playing a major role, the allowance coordinators have reportedly submitted the necessary details to the SLTF.

Checks by Coleman Publications on May 18, 2024, confirmed that the SLTF had received the details and would be processing the payments anytime soon.
Teacher trainees at all levels (Level 100 to 400) are urged to exercise patience as well as anticipate the payment of their allowances.
The SLTF has not provided a specific date for the disbursement, but it is expected to be finalized soon.

However, trainees are to note that the allowances have been reinstated to eight months per academic year following the cancellation of the shift system.
Accordingly, the government currently owes four months of allowances for the first semester.
