Organised Labour has declared a nationwide strike beginning October 10, 2024, in protest against the government’s inaction on illegal mining, known locally as galamsey.
The decision comes after the deadline set by the labour groups for the government to address their concerns regarding the environmental and economic damage caused by galamsey expired at the end of September.
In an emergency meeting on Tuesday, October Ist, the labour leaders expressed their frustration with the government’s lack of decisive action against illegal mining activities.

He urged all workers to stay home from Thursday, October 10th, to pressure the government into taking immediate steps to curb illegal mining.
