Three Teacher Unions in Ghana have declared an Indefinite industrial action starting July 15th, 2024, in protest against the government’s proposed sale of SSNIT properties to Rock City.
The decision was announced in a joint statement by the leadership of the Pre-Tertiary Unions under the Ministry of Education, including the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Coalition of Concerned Teachers – Ghana (CCT-GH), and the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU).
The unions, aligned with the broader Organised Labour movement, are demanding a halt to the sale, citing concerns over its potential impact on SSNIT’s financial stability and the welfare of its beneficiaries.

They have called on all teachers and non-teaching staff to “lay down their working tools” and stay off work until the government addresses their concerns.
The statement issued by the unions also included a copy of the Organised Labour’s position on the matter, emphasizing the collective opposition to the sale.
