Ghana’s security services are facing an unprecedented surge in applications for recruitment, with nearly 90,000 individuals vying for the limited number of positions.

The Interior Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, speaking to Joy News on the recruitment, revealed the staggering figures as of Tuesday, August 13, 2024, when the application portal closed.

“As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications. That is the report I received from the security agencies handling the recruitment,” he said.

Despite the enthusiasm from applicants, Mr. Quartey added that only approximately 12,000 new personnel will be accepted across all branches of the security services, as per the approved parliamentary budget.

“All these 80,000 will be subject to the security agencies’ criteria to determine who qualifies for admission,” the Minister added.

This means a fiercely competitive selection process lies ahead, with stringent eligibility criteria being applied to the vast pool of applicants.
