President John Mahama has issued a directive to the Lands Commission to immediately cease all sales, leases, and processing of transactions involving state and public lands.

The order, communicated via a letter dated January 10, 2025, also demands a detailed report on all recent land transactions within 14 days.

The directive, dispatched from the Office Of the President aims to “protect and preserve State and Public Lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations,” according to the official communication.

The letter also instructs the Lands Commission to halt all ongoing and pending transactions without delay.

The letter states, “I am directed to formally communicate a directive for the immediate cessation of all activities relating to the sale, lease, or processing of transactions involving State and Public Lands.” It further emphasizes, “This directive has been issued to protect and preserve State and Public Lands for the collective benefit of the citizenry and future generations.”

The president’s directive explicitly mandates a halt to both ongoing and pending transactions. The administration said it seeks “to facilitate a comprehensive review of the current framework governing the management of such lands.”

The Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission has been tasked with compiling a detailed report on all recent and ongoing state and public land transactions.

This report must be submitted to the office of the President within fourteen (14) days from the date of the communication.
