The National Communication Authority (NCA) has issued a directive to all service providers in Ghana to permanently disconnect all SIM cards that are not re-registered using Ghana Cards from their systems as of 31st May 2023.
This means that individuals who fail to register their SIM cards before the deadline will lose their phone numbers and the ability to make calls or send messages.
To avoid this unwanted disconnection, individuals who have not yet re-registered their SIM cards are urged to visit their service provider with their Ghana Card to complete their registration.
It is necessary to note that registering with the National ID Card is the only acceptable form of identification for SIM re-registration.
The government of Ghana introduced the SIM re-registration exercise to enhance the security and accuracy of the database of subscribers.
This exercise is conducted under the framework of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) Registration Regulation, which requires all SIM cards to be registered with a valid National ID card or Passport.
It is essential to take this notification seriously and ensure that you have registered your SIM card before the deadline. Failure to re-register your SIM card will result in permanent disconnection, and you will be required to buy a new SIM card, which can be a costly and time-consuming process.
