The Former President, John Dramani Mahama has called on the current government to swiftly address the unpaid arrears owed to trainees across the country.

Addressing some trainee nurses on Saturday, Mahama emphasized the difficulties they are facing due to the outstanding allowances.

He urged the government to prioritize the payment of these arrears, which he noted have accumulated for nearly 30 months.

“Come and pay the nurses you owe them almost 30 months of arrears,” Mahama stated.

He stated, “It is about jobs and NDC is committed to jobs and so we are going to create the situation where we can employ as many of you as possible.”

Currently, the teacher trainees have only received two months of allowances since the commencement of the 2023/2024 academic year.

The Minister of Education has assured that funds have been approved for the payment, and it is hoped that the government will promptly pay these arrears to both trainees.
