President-elect John Dramani Mahama has officially endorsed The Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
This decision comes after extensive consultations with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement released by the Office of the President-elect, Mahama emphasized Bagbin’s extensive experience and dedication to parliamentary service.
“Rt. Hon. Bagbin has distinguished himself in the service of Parliament, rising from Member of Parliament for Nadowli to Minority and Majority leader respectively, and subsequently as Speaker of the 8th Parliament,” Mahama stated.

Bagbin’s nomination is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s legislative body during a critical period in the nation’s democratic development.
“He brings a wealth of experience to the position, which will prove vital in steering the affairs of Parliament,” Mahama added.
The President-elect expressed confidence in Bagbin’s ability to enhance the effectiveness of Parliament’s oversight responsibilities.
“Under the stewardship of The Right Honourable Alban Bagbin, Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibility,” Mahama concluded.

In response, the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has expressed his profound gratitude to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama for nominating him to be elected as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
“I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey,” Bagbin stated.
He emphasized his commitment to the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law, which have guided his years of service to Parliament and the people of Ghana.
Bagbin assured the President-Elect and the people of Ghana that he would uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness as Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.
“I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people,” he added.

In his statement, Bagbin also extended his thanks to the National Executives and the NDC Parliamentary Leadership for the honor of serving a second term as Speaker of Parliament.
