The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is distressed by the growing trend of unlawful use of military uniforms and accoutrements by protestors during demonstrations.

Despite repeated education and warnings to desist from such practices, the number of incidents continues to rise.

During the recent demonstrations in Accra organized by Democracy Hub and other groups, it was noticed that some individuals, claiming to be providing private security to dignitaries, were dressed in military-pattern camouflage uniforms and other military accessories.

According to GAF, this inappropriate use of military attire has the potential to falsely portray these individuals as GAF personnel, thereby tarnishing the reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Moreover, these unauthorized acts are in direct violation of the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967, which remains in effect.

The GAF emphasizes the importance of distinguishing between verified military personnel and civilians during public gatherings.

Military-pattern uniforms are specifically reserved for members of the armed forces and should not be worn by civilians unless authorized by relevant authorities.

The unlawful use of military attire can lead to confusion, public mistrust, and compromise the security of the nation. It is crucial that the general public adheres to the prescribed dress code to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the armed forces.

It is worth noting that the GAF continuously educates its personnel on proper military conduct, including the respectful and responsible use of uniforms.

The public is encouraged to report any instances of unauthorized use of military uniforms or suspicious activities involving individuals imitating armed forces personnel.

The GAF also appeals to organizers of demonstrations and event security to exercise caution and verify the credentials of individuals claiming to provide private security services.

Ensuring that only authorized personnel are involved in such activities will help maintain public trust and national security.

The Ghana Armed Forces stands firm in its commitment to protect the country, and urges all citizens to play their part by abstaining from the unauthorized use of military-pattern uniforms and accoutrements.
