The CETAG strike, which began on June 14, continues despite an agreement reached between CETAG’s leadership and the government.

According to CETAG, the signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) is merely a roadmap and a step taken to address their issues, which remain unresolved.

They contend that the government should proceed with implementing the MoA. However, no teaching will take place until they see payment.

CETAG maintains that the core of their strike is the implementation of the Arbitral Award and the subsequent payment of their arrears.

They highlight that the government currently owes them 20 months in arrears, by the end of August, and has further frozen their July salaries for engaging in a legal strike to demand their rightful dues.

This, they argue, constitutes bad faith on the part of the government.

CETAG also emphasizes that the NLC Arbitral Award, dated May 2nd, 2023, must be respected and implemented with due diligence, as their economic rights are being violated.

The CETAG Council, in consultation with their legal team, has scheduled a meeting on August 3rd, 2024, to discuss the MoA and make a final decision regarding the strike.

It is important to note that, despite the signed agreement, the final decision to call off the strike rests with the CETAG Council.

This decision will be made after careful deliberation on the MoA on the aforementioned date.
