The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers (CUTT) held a press conference at the NAGRAT Secretariat in Tamale on 23rd April, 2024 to address the ongoing delay in their postings by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education (MoE).

The coalition, comprised of 2022 graduates of the newly implemented B.Ed program, expressed their disappointment and frustration over the absence of postings despite meeting all necessary requirements, including passing the license exams and completing National Service.

“We are the first batch of the B.Ed program, and we are pioneers of this new educational system. However, we have been left to our fate,” CUTT stated.

According to CUTT, they have contacted both GES and MoE, with no satisfactory response or explanation. “Our members are in a state of anxiety and desperation,” they added

“Our situation has become dire in that even most of our members who out of frustration decided to apply to teach in private schools are not being recruited or accepted with the notion that government will employ them soon yet still nothing is done about our employment”

The coalition cited the established trend of automatic postings for trained teachers from Colleges of Education, with previous batches receiving postings within one month after completing National Service.

“Why is this batch being treated differently? We are the ones who will implement the new Common Core Program in Basic Schools,” questioned CUTT

CUTT is demanding immediate action from GES and MoE. They are calling for:

• An explanation for the delay in postings

• A clear timeline for the recruitment process

• Transparency and accountability from the authorities

“We urge the government to prioritize the employment of unemployed trained teachers to address the teacher shortage in our schools and ensure a brighter future for our students,” CUTT concluded.
