The Chief Executive of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), Ing. Benjamin Arthur, has urged the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and other teacher unions to end their industrial strike actions and return to the negotiation table.
Ing. Arthur emphasized that the only way to resolve their grievances is through dialogue and negotiations.
In a press briefing organized by the FWSC, Ing. Arthur expressed disappointment in the strike actions taken by the teacher unions.

He pointed out that the government has already addressed some of their demands and has shown good faith in previous negotiations.
Therefore, he called on the teacher unions to reconsider their strike and work towards finding a mutual agreement.

The teacher unions on 20th March, 2024 declared an indefinite nationwide strike, citing delays and concerns regarding certain allowances.
Ing. Arthur refuted these claims, stating that the government negotiation team has been committed and able to reach agreements on ten out of the sixteen items submitted for negotiations.

Regarding the remaining six proposed items, Ing. Arthur explained that the FWSC does not have the authority to grant approvals without consulting the Ministry of Finance.
He assured the public and parents that the government is fully committed to resolving the impasse as quickly as possible, in order for the teacher unions to resume work.
