The University of Education, Winneba’s College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) has announced the postponement of its special resit examinations, originally scheduled for February 1st, 2025.

The decision, communicated in a letter dated January 23rd, 2025, comes as a result of identified “systemic problems” affecting student results, according to Deputy Registrar, Dr. Francis Narh Akrono.

“We have taken the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the resit exams due to significant issues we’ve uncovered with the students’ result system,” stated Dr. Akrono in the letter to Study Centre Coordinators and Administrators.

He emphasized, “Our priority is to ensure a fair and smooth examination process for all students, and we cannot proceed until these issues are completely resolved.”

The postponement will push the examinations, initially planned to begin on Saturday, February 1st, to a later date, with a tentative start on Monday, February 10th.

The move was deemed essential to address a growing number of issues reported by students regarding discrepancies in their results.

“We are working diligently to rectify these issues and to ensure that every student-reported concern is attended to,” Dr. Akrono explained, adding, “We understand the inconvenience this may cause and we sincerely apologize for any disruption to your plans, but we hope for patience and understanding as we resolve these concerns so that all students will have the opportunity to graduate.”

CODeL management has pledged to communicate the new, confirmed exam dates as soon as the underlying problems with the system are fixed.

The letter, copied to key CODeL leadership including the Principal, Director of Programmes and Innovations, and Heads of Finance and Audit, signals the seriousness with which the issue is being treated within the University.

The postponement has caused a stir among the student body, many of whom were preparing to finalize their academic requirements with the scheduled resit exams.

While some students have expressed frustration over the postponement, many have applauded the university’s commitment to ensuring the accuracy of their results, even if it meant a delay.

“It’s frustrating, but I’d rather wait and have a fair exam than rush something that isn’t right,” said one student, speaking on the condition of anonymity. “It’s the right decision in the long run if they fix these issues.”

NOTE: This postponement is for students of the College for Distance and e-Learning (CODeL) and not teacher trainees in affilated colleges.
