The President of the Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG), Razak Soale, has disclosed that the government has yet to provide a timeline for the payment of the arrears of the trainee allowance.

According to him, While the Minister of Education has assured them that funds had been approved for the payment, no details were given as to when the trainees can expect to receive their allowances.

He expressed disappointment with the minister’s assurances, stating that despite promises made regarding the strike, no concrete progress had been made so far.

The President revealed that the industrial action by CETAG has left trainees in a state of uncertainty, as they are unsure when the strike will end.

This uncertainty, according to him, has also affected their academic future, as course outlines, manuals, and reading materials have not been provided due to the strike.

“Not only are students affected by the strike, but their parents and guardians are also facing difficulties” he posited.

Regarding the allowances, Soale revealed that the government has only made payments for two months since the 2023/2024 academic year began.
