Teacher Unions, Government Face June Deadline for Negotiations

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has set a deadline of June 19, 2024, for the conclusion of negotiations between teacher unions and the government on conditions of service.

If an agreement is not reached by this date, the NLC will refer the matter to arbitration.

Government’s Offer

According to sources, the government has offered the following allowances:

  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and deprived area allowances: GH¢2,000.00
  • Data support allowance: GH¢500.00 payable once annually

Teacher Unions’ Response

The teacher unions have rejected the government’s offer.

They have not yet presented their own counter-figures because they want the government to accept their demand for an extra assessment allowance.

Next Steps

The negotiations will continue until the June 19 deadline.
