As the 2024/2025 academic year approaches, teacher trainees across various Colleges of Education are demanding payment of allowances owed to them by the government.

With the academic year scheduled to begin on November 18, 2024, just a week away, the situation has become a pressing concern for the trainees.

In recent years, the government has pledged to provide monthly allowances to teacher trainees to cover basic living expenses and educational materials.

However, trainees have reported that they have not received their stipends for the entire second semester of the previous academic year (2023/2024).

According to the trainees, they have also been given a short vacation break. Therefore, they are now facing financial hardship as the new academic year approaches. They are urging the government to address this matter urgently.

Some have also expressed frustration over the government’s lack of communication and transparency regarding their outstanding payments.

“We are dedicated to our training and future roles as educators,” said a student representative from one of the Colleges of Education. “But it is disheartening to see our allowances delayed without any explanation.”
