The Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) has urged the government to settle all their outstanding arrears before the general elections on December 7, 2024.

Speaking on GHOne TV Midday News on December 5, 2024, the president of the association, Master Soale Razak, revealed that despite multiple appeals to the government and various stakeholders, efforts to secure the payment of arrears have been unsuccessful.

He expressed concern over what he described as “deliberate delays,” the origin of which remains unclear.

“We’ve been working and engaging the appropriate stakeholders to ensure the payment is made, but there have been deliberate delays, and we don’t know where these delays are coming from,” Razak stated.

He further highlighted the mounting financial strain on trainee teachers, especially the final-year students undertaking their Macro-teaching, emphasizing their exhaustion after pursuing all available avenues for resolution.

It has been revealed that the government owes trainees for the entire second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.

Initially, colleges were supposed to resume academic activities for the 2024/2025 academic year on November 18, 2024, but the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) postponed the resumption to January 13, 2025, for levels 100, 200, and 300, citing unforeseen circumstances as the reason.

However, the final-year students were allowed to resume on November 18, 2024, to commence their Macro Teaching. They are currently at their attached stations.

“..the final-year students, currently engaged in their macro teaching, need their outstanding allowances…”

The President, Soale Razak, is therefore calling on the government to address their issue before the December 7 elections.
