The National Teaching Council (NTC) has made known the structure of the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) for 2025, providing clarity for aspiring teachers preparing for this assessment.
The GTLE is comprised of three distinct papers:
General Professional Knowledge
This paper will cover literacy, essential professional skills, and numeracy.

- Numeracy
It is a mandatory paper that all candidates must take, regardless of their specialism.
The paper consists of 90 multiple-choice questions (90 marks) and an essay component on literacy worth 10 marks.

Depending on your area of specialism, this paper will focus on early childhood, primary education, junior high, and senior high education.

it is made up of 100 multiple-choice questions.

Subject of Specialization
This paper is based on your area of specialism and you will select it during your registration process (For JHS/SHS)
It focuses on the specific subject area a candidate will teach. It is also made up of 100 multiple choice questions.
However, those with Mathematics majors will have 60 multiple choice questions in this paper.

Early Grade/Primary Education Candidates
For Early Childhood and Primary Education students, the “Multiple Subject Content” paper (100 multiple-choice questions) replaces the Subject of Specialization.
This multiple-choice paper covers all the subjects taught at the basic level.
