The Private and Unemployed Teachers Alliance (PUTA) has issued an ultimatum to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), threatening to hold demonstrations in September if their demands for teacher recruitment are not met.

PUTA, which represents unemployed university education graduates and private school teachers, is demanding the immediate recruitment of 12,560 unemployed graduates and a 50% guarantee for university education students in future Ghana Education Service (GES) postings.

The alliance claims to have sent letters to the Ministry of Education, the NPP Flagbearer, and the NPP Chairman outlining their concerns, but have received no response.

In a public statement released, PUTA issued a deadline of Monday, September 2nd for a dialogue with the NPP on their demands.

“We are calling on the NPP to invite us for a dialogue on this critical issue,” said James Ackon, PUTA spokesperson.

“We are prepared to engage in constructive discussions to find a solution. However, if we are not invited by Monday, we will have no choice but to take action.”

The alliance is mobilizing its members and has warned that if their demands are not met, they will be forced to advise themselves on their course of action in the upcoming 2024 election.
