The leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has disclosed that they will not hold any council meeting or call off their industrial action until they receive a signed Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) from the government.

The association postponed its scheduled Friday council meeting due to the government’s failure to provide a signed written agreement regarding the implementation of their various National Labour Commission (NLC) awards and conditions of service.

According to CETAG, during their initial meeting on Wednesday with the Education Minister, they received only verbal assurances.

They subsequently requested a formally signed MoA for their Friday council meeting, which never came.

They argued that such a document would serve as tangible proof of the government’s commitment.

However, the government declined to provide the written documentation of these assurances for all relevant parties to sign.

As a result, CETAG postponed the meeting until further notice. CETAG argues that relying solely on verbal promises is unreasonable.

In a defiant declaration, CETAG has vowed to continue their industrial action until the government appends their signatures to the agreement.

They believe that without a written commitment, there is no guarantee that the government will follow through on their promises.

Information reaching Coleman Publications also reveals that CETAG is not planning to call off their industrial action anytime soon until the agreement (MoA) is signed by the government and ts subsequent approval by council.

The ball is now in the government’s court, and it is up to them to fulfill their obligations or witness CETAG persist with their protest.

CETAG has currently withdrawn all of its services, causing significant disruptions across the public colleges of education in the country.

Despite GTEC’s recent instruction to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) to freeze the salaries of CETAG members for the month of July as a disciplinary measure, some CETAG members have indicated that they are willing to forgo their August salaries if the government fails to take prompt action.
