In response to concerns raised in a recent documentary by JoyNews regarding poor feeding and irregular food supply in Senior High Schools, the Ministry of Education has taken proactive steps to address the issue and assure the public of food security in senior high schools.

According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, the primary challenge lies not in the lack of food within secondary schools but in the growing distrust towards state institutions.

In a statement released on 3rd March 2024, the Ministry outlined the outcomes of a comprehensive nationwide visitation and monitoring exercise conducted in partnership with the media to investigate the reported issues.

The key findings of the Ministry’s visitation include the following:

  • Schools visited and reports from others confirmed the presence of an ample stock of food in their storage facilities.
  • Timely and full payment of allocated funds for the purchase of perishable food items to all schools was reported.
  • Feedback from school heads and students indicates general satisfaction with the quality and quantity of food being provided.

The Ministry affirmed its commitment to address any genuine anomalies identified and reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the consistent and timely provision of high-quality food supplies to enhance the free and quality Senior High School program.
