The Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG) has reaffirmed its ongoing strike, which began on January 2nd, 2025, and has urged its members to refrain from all official duties if colleges resume on January 13th without their demands being met.
The National Council has stated unequivocally that the strike remains in full effect, rejecting appeals for a partial or moderated approach to the industrial action.
In a statement released on January 8, CETAG explicitly outlined the duties members are expected to abstain from, citing the Harmonized Scheme of Service for Colleges of Education.
These duties include:
- Teaching
- Setting and marking assignments and examination questions
- Invigilating examinations
- Supervising student projects
- Conducting research and publications
- Assisting in departmental administration, such as timetable preparation and assessments
- Supervising student internships (both macro and micro-teaching)
- Participating in extension work, including management, academic board, and departmental meetings, as well as hall and dining administration.
- Any other work assigned by college principals or their representatives.

The association has emphasized that this is a total boycott of duties, and members are expected to fully adhere to the strike’s tenets.
CETAG also warned that any member who undertakes any action or makes comments deemed detrimental to the collective resolution will face disciplinary action from the Council.
“We are appealing to all members to adhere to the tenets of this ongoing strike. The Council will not tolerate any member undertaking actions or making comments that undermine our collective resolution.”

The National Council again cited “numerous failed promises, failed Memoranda of Agreements, and countless fruitless meetings” over the past 24 months as reasons for the continued strike.
According to the statement, the Council will not consider adjusting or calling off the strike until all demands are met and payments are received by members.
